Paintings and Drawings (1981)
Details
The ideas for the paintings and drawings come from a response to American ‘abstract expressionism’. A ‘Gallery A’ during the 1970s this seemed to be the major concern for the mature Australian artists whom I looked up to. One of these artists was Willem Dekooning and particularly his work ‘Attic’ which contained the structural dynamics coming out of cubism and the use of many ‘whites’. Also, Mark Tobey with his gestural and calligraphic style influenced by Eastern art.
